Old-Fashioned Cracked Wheat Breakfast

Ingredients

3/4 cup cracked wheat
3 1/2 cups water
1/3 cup dried apples (diced) or other dried fruit such as raisins, cranberries, blueberries or cherries
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cardamom
pinch of salt

Directions

Combine all of the ingredients in a crock pot. Right before bed, turn the crock pot on LOW Cook 6-7 hours Stir before serving We like our cracked wheat cereal with a little honey or other sweetener, and a bit of cream or coconut butter.

NOTE:  If you would like to try this recipe in the oven, rather than the crock pot, just combine your ingredients in a casserole dish that has a well-fitting lid.  Cast iron cookery works well.  The oven should be set to 190 degrees.  I find this method works better for us because I only have a huge crock pot, but I have a small cast-iron pan, so I can do just a few servings at a time.
