LASSENS – NATURAL FOODS & VITAMINS

Hemp History Week 2012 / Lassens Strawberry Hemp Smoothie

Pure Deliciousness!
Today, June 4th, 2012, marks the start of the 3rd annual Hemp History Week; a public educational campaign to try to help bring back industrial hemp farming to the United States. Hemp was banned from American farms in the early 1900’s due to the demonization of the cannabis plant, namely hemp’s THC rich cousin Marijuana. However, even in the face of all the misplaced controversy and finger-pointing, hemp has been proven to be one of the single most useful crops of all time.
From paper, clothing, biodegradable plastics to it’s numerous nutritional benefits when ingested, the long list of hempy-goodness seems unending.
This week Lassens will be doing a series of blog posts about hemp; how we can use it, cook it, clean with it and how it can help benefit our lives in many different aspects.

Seeing as it’s Monday, I’ll make this first post short and sweet.
Shelled hemp seeds are one of the best vegan sources of essential fatty acids (EFA). EFAs help in the development and continued function of brain and nerve tissues, assist in cardiovascular support, aid in healthy hair, skin and nails as well as numerous other benefits.

strawberry+hemp+smoothie, hemp+smoothie

This week, Lassen’s deli introduces the Strawberry Hemp Smoothie, a winning combination of organic strawberries, organic banana, chocolate hemp milk, organic coconut oil and organic shelled hemp seeds.
It’s no mystery that chocolate and strawberries are amazing together, but the real magic occurs when coconut oil and shelled hemp seeds arrive at the party to create a drink that is filling, satisfying and just plain ol’ fancy! Try yours today at the Lassen’s deli in Ventura, Thousand Oaks, Santa Maria, Bakersfield and Fresno, California.

And stay posted tomorrow for some more fun facts and useful uses for hemp!

Love,

Lassen’s
